1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, provide a better user experience, and provide information to website owners.

Session Cookies: Temporary cookies that are deleted when you close your browser or when the session they belong to ends.

Persistent Cookies: Cookies that remain on your device until their expiry date is reached or until you delete them.

First-Party Cookies: Set by Verbalab directly, on verbalab.ai, app.verbalab.ai, or survey.verbalab.ai.

Third-Party Cookies: Set by external services we use (for example analytics or monitoring providers).

Cookies typically contain:

  • A unique identifier
  • The website domain that created the cookie
  • An expiration date
  • Information the website needs to remember about you

2. Why We Use Cookies

Verbalab runs on two sites, and cookies do a different job on each. On app.verbalab.ai, the customer panel, they keep you signed in while you brief a study and follow it. On survey.verbalab.ai, the survey site, they hold the interview session so that answering can continue from screen to screen.

We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Authentication & Security: Keep you signed in to the customer panel and protect your account
  • Interview Continuity: Hold the interview session on the survey site so that an interview can be resumed where it was left off
  • Functionality: Remember your preferences and settings
  • Analytics: Understand how people move through our sites (with your consent)
  • Performance: Detect errors and improve service stability
  • Marketing: Measure how people find Verbalab (with your consent)

All cookie usage is intended to comply with:

  • GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation)
  • ePrivacy Directive (Cookie Law)
  • Other applicable data protection regulations

Cookies are about your browser. The answers collected in a study are something else: they are study data, held in an append-only record and covered by our Privacy Policy.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

Verbalab is in early access, and the platform is still being built. This section describes cookies by the job they do. A cookie is not set outside the categories below, and a new cookie is added to this list before it is used.

Category 1: Strictly Necessary Cookies

Purpose: Essential for the sites to function properly.

PurposeWhereLifetimeCan Be Disabled?
Keep you signed in to the customer panelapp.verbalab.aiSessionNo
Prevent cross-site request forgery attacksapp.verbalab.ai, survey.verbalab.aiSessionNo
Hold the interview session so an interview can be resumedsurvey.verbalab.aiSessionNo
Remember your cookie choiceAll Verbalab sitesPersistentNo
Store your language preferenceAll Verbalab sitesPersistentNo

Why these cannot be disabled: Without them, sign-in, security, and the interview flow would not work.

On the survey site

Respondents at survey.verbalab.ai answer one question per screen. The interview session cookie is what tells the next screen which question you are on, and it is what allows an interview to be resumed where it was left off.

Two things that come out of an interview are stored with the interview record on our side rather than in your browser:

  • Disposition codes: a screening decision is recorded with a disposition code that says how the interview was routed or why it ended.
  • Quality flags: a flag marks a suspicious record for review rather than silently deleting it.

Clearing cookies in your browser removes the session, not the interview record. If you want to reach us about a record, see Section 11.

On some pages of verbalab.ai a short survey invitation can appear. It is off until you turn it on in the consent banner ("Survey invitation"), and it can be turned off again at any time through Preferences in the footer.

While it is on, one thing is kept in your browser, and it is not a cookie: a local storage entry recording that you dismissed the invitation, so that you are not asked again. The invitation itself sends nothing anywhere and reads nothing else about your device.

If you accept the invitation, the survey opens inside a frame served by survey.verbalab.ai. From there the survey site's section above applies: the interview session lives there rather than on this page, and what you type is not readable by this site. Whether a study may derive a technical signature from your device is a separate question, asked inside the survey, with its own text and its own record — accepting this banner is not that consent.

Category 2: Functional Cookies

Purpose: Remember choices you have made, so the interface comes back the way you left it.

PurposeWhereLifetimeCan Be Disabled?
Remember light/dark display selectionapp.verbalab.ai, verbalab.aiPersistentYes
Remember panel layout choicesapp.verbalab.aiPersistentYes
Remember which view of a study you last openedapp.verbalab.aiPersistentYes

Impact of disabling: You may need to set these preferences again each time you visit. Nothing else changes.

Category 3: Analytics & Performance Cookies

Purpose: Understand how people use our sites, so that we can improve them.

These are set only if you accept this category. Any third-party analytics or monitoring provider is named in Section 4 before its cookies are enabled.

PurposeSet ByLifetimeCan Be Disabled?
Distinguish repeat visits so that usage can be countedAnalytics providerPersistentYes
Measure which pages and features are usedAnalytics providerPersistentYes
Record errors and performance problemsError monitoring providerSession or persistentYes

What analytics cookies observe:

  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Features used and click patterns
  • Error messages encountered
  • Device type, browser, and screen resolution
  • Approximate location (country or city level, not precise location)
  • Referral source (how you found Verbalab)

What they do not observe: the answers given in an interview. Answers are study data written to the append-only record of the study they belong to; they are not analytics data and are not read from cookies.

Category 4: Marketing & Advertising Cookies

Purpose: Measure how people find Verbalab and how our campaigns perform.

These are set only if you accept this category. No cookie in this category is set on the basis of a legitimate-interest claim, and any provider in this category is named in Section 4 before its cookies are enabled.

Verbalab does not sell respondent data.

Your choice: You can refuse this category, and change your mind later. See Section 6.

4. Third-Party Cookies

Some services we use may set their own cookies. We do not control those cookies: each provider's own privacy and cookie policy governs them.

How we handle third-party cookies during early access

  • A third-party cookie in the analytics, performance, or marketing categories is set only after you accept that category.
  • A provider is named in this section, with a link to its privacy policy, before its cookies are enabled on our sites.
  • The full provider list is confirmed here before general availability.

Support

Support during early access is handled by email at [email protected]. If we introduce a chat widget that sets its own cookies, it will be listed in this section first.

Cookies stay on your device for different periods.

LifetimeWhat it coversEnds when
SessionPanel sign-in, request forgery protection, interview sessionYou close the browser, or the session ends
PersistentCookie choice, language, display and layout preferences, analytics identifiersThe cookie's expiry date is reached, or you delete it

The exact expiry set on each cookie is visible in your browser's cookie inspector, and will be listed here per cookie before general availability.

You can delete cookies at any time through your browser settings or through our cookie settings.

You decide which non-essential cookies are used.

On your first visit you are asked to make a choice:

Cookie Consent Banner

We use our own and third-party cookies to display this website correctly and to better understand how it is used, in order to improve our offering. Your decision regarding cookie consent can be changed at any time via the cookie button that appears after making a selection on this banner.

Buttons:

  • Accept All - Enable all cookie categories
  • Reject - Only strictly necessary cookies
  • Manage Cookies - Choose category by category

Your choice can be changed at any time from the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of any Verbalab site. There you can:

  • See the categories and what each one is for
  • Enable or disable each category individually (except strictly necessary)
  • See which third-party providers are active
  • Update your choice as often as you like

Your Choices

  1. Accept all cookies
All categories are enabled, including analytics and marketing.
  2. Reject non-essential cookies
Only strictly necessary cookies are used. Functional, analytics, and marketing cookies are not set.
  3. Choose category by category
Enable the categories you want and refuse the rest.

If you are answering an interview: rejecting non-essential cookies leaves the strictly necessary cookies in place, including the interview session on survey.verbalab.ai.

Note: Disabling functional cookies may mean you have to set your preferences again on each visit.

Blocking strictly necessary cookies

If you block all cookies, sign-in to the customer panel will not hold, and an interview at survey.verbalab.ai will not be able to carry you from one question screen to the next or resume where you left off.

Incognito/Private Browsing Mode

Most browsers offer private browsing modes that:

  • Do not save cookies after you close the window
  • Do not keep browsing history
  • Provide increased privacy

Note: Incognito mode does not make you anonymous to websites or to your internet service provider. It also discards the interview session when the window is closed.

8. Mobile Tracking

No mobile application

Verbalab has no mobile app. Both the customer panel and the survey site run in a web browser, so on a phone or tablet the cookies described in this policy are ordinary browser cookies, controlled the same way as on a desktop.

Because there is no app, we do not collect mobile advertising identifiers (such as the iOS Identifier for Advertisers or the Android Advertising ID) or in-app push notification tokens.

Mobile browsers

Interviews at survey.verbalab.ai are often answered on a phone browser. Mobile browsers offer the same cookie controls as their desktop versions — see Section 7 — including private browsing, which discards the interview session when the window is closed.

If a mobile application is ever introduced, this section will describe what it collects before it is released.

9. Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting that sends a signal to websites requesting not to track users.

Verbalab's DNT policy:

  • We respect DNT signals when technically feasible
  • If DNT is enabled, we do not set analytics or marketing cookies
  • Strictly necessary cookies remain active for security, sign-in, and the interview flow
  • You can also use our cookie settings for more granular control

Note: There is no universal standard for interpreting DNT signals, so implementation varies across websites.

10. Changes to This Policy

Modification Rights

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect:

  • New cookies or tracking technologies
  • Changes in third-party providers
  • Legal or regulatory requirements
  • User feedback and privacy best practices

Verbalab is in early access, and the platform is changing. A new cookie or a new provider is added to this policy before it is used.

Notice of Changes

When we make material changes:

  • We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
  • We may ask you to review your cookie choice again
  • We will notify you by email for significant changes (if you have a customer account)

Continued use of Verbalab after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Cookie Policy.
